Moores Furniture Group Case Study
When the new management team at Moores, the UK’s leading manufacturer of kitchens and bathrooms, wanted an independent assessment of the company’s IT function, they turned to Optimising IT for an expert appraisal and advice on the way forward.
Founded in 1947 and with a reputation for quality craftsmanship, Moores supplies its kitchens and bathrooms into the new build and affordable housing sector. The company also has a number of retail brands sold in independent retailers and manufacture furniture for builders’ merchants and large DIY stores.
Led by the Financial Director and incoming Managing Director, the board has ambitious plans for the Wetherby-based company but they suspected that the IT system was not working as hard for the business as it could be.
An initial priority for Optimising IT was to gain an in depth understanding of how the company operates and how Moores would need to work differently to achieve its future commercial ambitions.
Optimising IT spent 10 days working alongside Moores to take a thorough look at the company’s infrastructure and the applications, current IT staffing resources as well as the organisation’s processes and procedures to understand how IT was influencing the company’s efficiency and effectiveness. In evaluating key commercial drivers and challenges facing the business, the service from Optimising IT combined business consultancy with practical IT advice.
The technology review involved looking at how processes and systems had grown and developed over the last 20 years and comparing the situation to what the company would require to achieve its ambitions. The resulting gap analysis helped to identify priorities in changing processes and systems as well as the IT infrastructure and technology, which would help the board move the company forward.
The gap analysis also provided Moores with an insight they could give to short-listed applicants for the new role of IT Director. With intelligence gained during the health check, Optimising IT worked with Moores to further outline the specifications for the role, as well as developing competency-based job descriptions for additional roles to further enhance and develop the company’s IT function.
